This policy applies to Lex's kidney search sites, including givemeyourkidney.com and akidneyforlex.com. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible.
When you join our community leaderboard, boost a referrer, or submit an AMA question, we collect certain technical data automatically to prevent fraud and abuse. This includes your IP address and your browser's User-Agent string. If you join the leaderboard, we also store the display name and recovery key you provide.
We do not store your raw IP address or User-Agent. Instead, we generate an irreversible cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of this information, combined with a server-side secret (pepper) when configured. This means we cannot identify you personally or track your browsing habits outside of this website.
Leaderboard display names are redacted by default when shown on the public site (for example, "D*****t"). Full names are only shown publicly at the participant's own request. Full display names are stored in our database for leaderboard functionality; recovery keys are stored so we can verify ownership if you contact us.
This anonymized, hashed data is used strictly for rate-limiting and abuse prevention. For example, we use it to ensure that a single person cannot artificially inflate a referrer's score by repeatedly visiting the same link, and to limit the number of referral links or messages a person can create in a single day.
We store a small amount of data locally in your browser (via localStorage and sessionStorage) rather than in cookies. This includes your display preferences (language, theme, and font choice) and, if you create a leaderboard link, your own referrer ID, display name, and recovery key so we can recognize you on return visits. This data stays on your device and is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
We use Cloudflare Turnstile to verify that you are a human and not a bot. Turnstile may collect certain telemetry and session information to perform its checks. Please refer to Cloudflare's privacy policy for more details.
If you submit a question through an AMA form (available on both the formal and informal sites), we store your message text along with hashed IP and User-Agent for abuse prevention. Submissions are moderated manually and are not displayed until approved. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in your question.
The main pages do not embed Twitch. The dedicated Twitch page may link to or embed Twitch content when live; visiting that page or Twitch directly is subject to Twitch's own privacy policy. We do not connect any external accounts to this site.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy, or if you would like your leaderboard entry or a submitted message removed, please contact us.
